Newborn Photography Session with Baby Sophia - Pimlico

A few weeks earlier I had been to Susanne and Jan's home in Pimlico to do a maternity photography shoot, so it was very exciting to go and meet them now as a young family with their beautiful daughter, Sophia. As is often the way, I arrived and there was a general, but very happy air of chaos around. It doesn't matter how meticulously parents of a newborn baby try to be, but life with a newborn rarely goes exactly to plan! But this is normal in my job photographing children and babies and I love it all the more for this.

Susanne was feeding Sophia when I arrived, so I got my camera kit out so I was ready to get on with taking photographs. We had done quite a few different photographs during the pregnancy session that were going to become part of some pre and post baby photographs, so these would need to be carefully planned to match the composition and light of the original photographs - here is one of my favourites. I wanted to try and get these shots out of the way as much as possible at the beginning of the newborn baby photo session.

We also had a number of photos that Susanne and Jan were keen to have. These included several naked baby photos, including one of Sophia lying on her daddy's bare skin back, several of Sophia crying (as this is certainly very much part of life with a newborn baby which Jan felt should be represented in the set of photographs), some close up details of hands and feet, as well as a variety of family photos, including one of my favourites above - three generations of girls (Susanne's mother had come over from Germany to help out over the first few weeks).
