Newborn Baby Photography Shoot - Streatham Hill

I met this young couple before Christmas prior to the arrival of their little girl, Lyla. We discussed the kinds of photographs that they hoped for during their photography shoot.

Lyla Isabelle arrived on Friday 10th January. Like many new parents, it took a few days to get life settled into some kind of rhythm once their baby arrived. David, the father, emailed me and asked if I recommended that they should wait a few days to see if they could settle her into a pattern. I advised to go with an earlier date, as generally babies are still more sleepy and less likely to get disturbed by the photography process in the early days, which would enable us to get some lovely sleeping shots that both Maria and David wanted. On the day, Lyla couldn't have been better behaved :-)

We started the session with a few shots of Maria (mummy) and Lyla. She was awake and we made the most of this time capturing images of Lyla with both mummy and daddy. Both parents were absolutely besoted by their beautiful little girl. Daddy enjoyed making lots of funny faces and sticking his tongue out watching how Lyla would already start to copy him.

A top up of milk and Lyla was falling asleep. She snuggled cosyly into a fur-lined basket for some cute, but simple photographs. Once in a deep sleep, we put a lovely little hat on her head and she made a wonderful picture on the bed. Once we'd taken a few full-length and close-up shots of her sleeping on the bed, including one with a cuddly teddy, we grabbed some plain shots of mummy holding Lyla against a plain white background. Daddy took hold of Lyla as she was beginning to wake. A couple more shots of both mummy and daddy holding their baby (including the photograph above which I love - it was a moment that came as I was just packing up my kit, I turned and saw Lyla had nestled into the arms and lap of her mummy and she looked so peaceful).
