The air is crisp, the leaves are ablaze with colour, and the soft light is simply breathtaking – autumn is the perfect time for family photos! And recently, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing a beautiful connection between a mother and her lively 5-year-old son on Wandsworth Common. I have photographed this family for a few years now, and they always love this time of year for our photo shoots. As a Wandsworth family photographer, I love to capture those authentic moments between a mother and her child.

We spent a fun morning exploring the common, surrounded by nature's stunning autumnal tapestry. This wasn't about posed smiles; it was about documenting real moments of joy and connection. This characterful child's personality shone through immediately. He was full of energy, curious about everything, and possessed the most infectious giggle! These are the moments that make autumn family photography so special.

One of our favourite things of the session was watching the wildfowl on the lakes with the tufted ducks; Egyptian geese; coots and mallards eagerly coming forth for any food we might offer! The session couldn't be complete without rolling around in the autumn leaves. The laughter was contagious, and the images capture the sheer delight of these simple moments. It's these playful interactions – the shared smiles, the whispered secrets, and the genuine connection between a mother and her child – that I strive to capture in every family photography session. I aim to photograph that special mother-son bond.
